Google Takes More Steps in China
Google’s coming back to China will not be only in search engine market. Its auto-pilot company Waymo has registered a wholly owned subsidiary in Shanghai recently and it has set up a AI research center in China. Google has also invested in Chinese local companies.

August 11th, according to informed sources, Google is likely to come back to China market and offer search engine, news and cloud services.

July 8th, China’s state owned media People’s Daily (overseas version) posted on its social media that China welcomes Google back to mainland China if it abides local laws. This can be interpreted into a clear sign that Google is coming back to China.
Google Buys HTC Smartphone Division
Jan 30th, Google completes its $1.1B deal to buy a chunk of HTC’s smartphone division. Google acquires over 2,000 engineers and non-exclusive authorization to HTC’s intellectual property rights. HTC retains Vive VR and will continue manufacturing smartphones.
Google Lab in the Fobidden City
Google Arts & Culture is cooperating with Imperial Palaces in the Fobidden City of Beijing to demo a lab next to the Emperor’s bedroom. The lab includes GooglePortrait Matcher, Photos of Google Gigapixel Camera and Google Expeditions.
