Wafer Investment Continue to Rise
According to SEMI’s data, presently there are 78 new wafer factories and production lines being build around the world during 2017-2020. Equipments worth USD220 billion will be needed for them, among which USD63 billion will be from South Korea, USD62 billion from China, USD22 billion from Japan, USD15 billion from America and USD8 from Europe and Southeast Asia combined.
AMD Shift to TSMC
August 29th, Global Foundries announced that it will not invest in a 7nm factory which is likely to cost USD10-15 billion. AMD will shift its orders from Global Foundries to TSMC.
Google Takes More Steps in China
Google’s coming back to China will not be only in search engine market. Its auto-pilot company Waymo has registered a wholly owned subsidiary in Shanghai recently and it has set up a AI research center in China. Google has also invested in Chinese local companies.
